Our fantastic series of talks returns this autumn with more great speakers on local wildlife, landscape and history!

Book your ticket now Thursday 19 October, 7pm A tale of three chariots In the last eight years, three magnificent chariot burials have been unearthed in the East Riding. Archaeologist Paula Ware returns for a talk on these amazing excavations and their significance.
Thursday 16 November, 7pm Dolphins, porpoises and whales off the Yorkshire Coast Sightings of cetaceans off our coast have increased dramatically in recent years. Stuart Baines of Yorkshire Coast Seawatch gives an expert view of the different species, populations and movements of these fascinating creatures from the Humber to the Tees. From Whitby to Peru: the natural history and evolution of whales Fossil expert Rebecca Bennion was involved in fascinating research on the fossil of perucetus colossus, a type of ancient whale and one of the biggest animals that has ever existed. Rebecca, who hails from Whitby, will talk about the evolution of whales, the whaling industry and the current state of whale populations.

Ghosts in the landscape: iron age dykes on the Tabular Hills The hills above Snainton and nearby villages are marked by a strange pattern of banks, ditches and earthworks. This is the best preserved set of iron age dykes in the country. Where are they, and what were they for? In this talk Roger Osborne uses maps, recent drone footage and aerial photos to show the scale of this magnificent engineering achievement.
Coronation celebration 2023

Join us for a weekend of celebrations to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III. A small team of volunteers have worked together to plan these events with something for everyone and to make long lasting memories of this moment in our history.
Sunday 7 May
Community walk/run/pedal
Meet at the Village Hall at 10am and take part in a self-guided community walk/run/pedal around the village. Mapped routes will be available, all ending back at the Village Hall for tea and coffee.
Service at St Stephen's Church 9.30am
Join in with the congregation as St John Harris leads the Sunday worship. After the service why not join a walk through the village.
Monday 8 May
Coronation celebration at the Village Hall and playing field 12noon-4pm
Join us for an afternoon of family games and village celebrations. Bring your own picnic lunch, and we can provide tea and cake. Family entertainer Uncle Brian will be on site, along with children's craft activities and family games. Hunmanby Silver Band will strike up at 1.15pm with the national anthem sung at 2pm. Head into the village hall to view a collection of coronation memories and village archive photos. Bring your own blanket and chairs and be prepared for the British weather!
